Platine Heidelberg at the " Maison de la culture " After years of sideman work and releases on independent labels, guitarist/composer Michel Gaillard is trying to "make it," playing a lot in the French part of Europe with his magnificent quartet, Platine Heidelberg. Along with bassist Alex Allflat, saxophonist Laurent Weber and drummer Mark Fantini , Gaillard, as a lot of old Europe musicians, is not afraid to explore Chopin like romantic music. This is not an obstacle to also perform loud free rock. The outcome is not easy to describe, even more if have to add this guy uses a " post-nuclear sitar ".... this very strange burned-out-customed-old-guitar, with only three strings, sounds amazingly warm, bewitched and really close to sitar. What amazed me the most, actually, is the whole thing's spirit. Jazz, without any doubt. The Leader calls it " third millenary fusion jazz ".
